In the Name of the Father (R, 1993) One of Ireland’s most popular films, In the Name of the Father is based on Gerry Conlon’s autobiography “Proved Innocent.” Conlon, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, was wrongfully imprisoned in 1974 for the bombing of a London pub. Also starring Emma Thompson. 91% Fresh. Michael Collins (R, 1996) Follows this IRA leader from the Easter uprising in 1916 to his death. Starring Liam Neeson (in the title role), Aidan Quinn, and Julia Roberts with a bad Irish accent. 76% Fresh. Good film. Some Mother's Son (R, 1996) is a film about the hunger strike in the Maze prison when a group of Irish Nationalists died for trying to change their status and treatment from that of common crimminals to political prisonsers. It is the choice a mother makes to force feed her son instead of letting him starve to death. It is a well-made and heart-wrenching movie. 69% Fresh. |
